In today’s world, the beauty and skincare industry has never been more complex or lucrative, with the Malaysian skincare market alone projected to generate revenue of US$888.20 million in 2024. From expensive face masks to high-coverage foundations and vitamin C serums, the options for achieving clear and poreless skin seem endless.
However, this hasn’t always been the case, especially for the co-founders of the Malaysian beauty patch brand Dododots. To address this, they are launching the world’s first concealer pimple patch product line — Dodoskin — available in an initial five shades designed to suit a diverse range of skin tones, including in Malaysia. The shade names — Bagel, Peach, Pancake, Chestnut, and Espresso — are all food-themed, reflecting the fun and playful nature of the brand.
“As a teenager, I struggled not only with the visible physical impact of severe acne but also with its psychological and mental effects,” shares Esther Erin, co-founder of Dododots.
“Existing acne solutions were either medical products, with acne returning as soon as you stopped using them, or too obvious — such as topical creams and transparent hydrocolloid stickers — or makeup products designed only to cover up the pimple rather than actually treating it. I couldn’t help but wonder: why do we have concealers and pimple patches, but not something that combines both concepts into one?”
This question became the core idea for Dododots during the pandemic in 2020. However, for those already familiar with the brand, this may come as a surprise. After all, Dododots launched in 2021 with creatively cute, uniquely shaped, and even holographic acne patches designed to be noticeable and bright, with the intention of helping users feel more comfortable in their skin. So, why start with stickers that stand out instead of the more subtle approach they originally intended?
“At the beginning of the Dododots journey, our initial budget of RM15,000 was rejected by suppliers, who required a minimum order of 10,000 packs of patches for each colour,” adds Ethan Wong, co-founder of Dododots.
“Since we wanted to offer multiple shades to suit various skin tones, this fiscal commitment was not feasible for a company in its early stages. However, we’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come over the years, and we’re now finally in a position to release the concealer pimple patch concept that originally inspired us to start the company!”
With the launch of Dodoskin concealer patches, Dododots aims to offer acne sufferers worldwide not only a pimple patch that blends seamlessly with their skin but also one that actively addresses the root cause of the pimple using the natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of tea tree oil. Customers can now choose whether to show off their spots or keep things subtle. With plans to expand the product line with even more shades in the future, there will soon be a beauty patch for every occasion. For more information and to purchase Dodoskin, visit dododots.com.
