SIBU: Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng has urged the people to come forward and pledge to donate their organs to save lives.
He said the main purpose of this organ donor impact was to help others to continue their lives.
“I remember that back in 2000, then, I was the president of JCI (Junior Chamber International) Mandarin Sibu. I have already pledged myself to be one of the donors for this organ donation campaign.
“Why? The reason is very simple when I die, I will be able to assist others to continue their life,” he said when officiating the Organ Donation Campaign at Malaysian Red Crescent Sibu (MRCS) headquarters today (July 16).
Chieng also noted that he acknowledged the fact that it was not easy to come to the decision as some myths and old sayings prevented them to do so.
“However, with the changing world, more knowledge should be provided especially to our younger generation to realise that it is important that we can do something for our society, especially to help others,” he said.
During the event a few representatives from several associations came forward and pledged to donate their organs to save lives including Teochew Association Sibu and Persatuan Juruteknik Kenderaan Sibu.
Among those present were MRCS Sibu chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee, MRCS Sibu deputy chairman cum Sibu Hospital deputy director Dr Rachel Teng Li Cin.
