KUCHING: The Sarawak General Hospital partnered with Che Hui Khor Moral Uplifting Society Kuching and Samarahan Division Youth Division to carry out a public blood donation event at their blood bank on Mother’s Day yesterday (May 12).

As early as 8.30am, blood donors were already lining up near the hospital’s blood bank entrance awaiting their turn to register and donate their blood.

New Sarawak Tribune managed to get a few comments from the blood donors as to why they came to donate their blood.

TERRECE ALA, 43, MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST

I was actually in Kuching yesterday for a few visits when I saw the advertisement banner. I also knew that this event is happening through the hospital’s blood bank Facebook page as they update it regularly, so I thought why not stop here to donate my blood before heading back to Sri Aman.

LAYNIE GEORGE, 32, ASSISTANT ENGINEER

This is my tenth time I am donating my blood in Kuching. I knew the event was happening when I was browsing through the hospital’s Facebook page. The reason why I came here to donate my blood is because my mindset was each bag of blood is able to save three lives.

I have been frequently donating my blood since 2022. Whenever the hospital made a post about blood donation, I would know about it. As a frequent blood donor, it has became like a responsibility for me to donate blood every three months or so. Also, it helps keep my body healthy.

ANGELINE CHIA YA SIAN, 37, ENGINEER

Up until now, this is my thirteenth time donating blood here. I would usually donate my blood during Mother’s Day and if my schedule does not clash with the blood donation date. Also, today is a Sunday, so I have plenty of free time to travel here for the event.

ABDUL RAHIM ABU BAKAR, 43, ENGINEER

I think this would be my 27th time donating blood. When I saw the Facebook post about today’s blood donation schedule, I freed up my time to travel here. I would say my reason for coming here would be to achieve my target of donating blood at least once a year. Besides, the benefits of blood donation like saving lives and reducing blood-related disease problems to oneself also prompted me to donate blood.
