KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) should not allow any Malaya-based Perikatan Nasional (PN) component party to contest under its banner in the coming 12th state election.

“Sarawak-based party under GPS knows Sarawak better. After all, its battle cry is ‘Sarawak First’,” said Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) senior youth member Robert Ayu.

Robert questioned why Bersatu and Parti Islam Se Malaysia (PAS) should be allowed to contest in the state election.

“Bersatu and PAS had agreed not to contest in the Sarawak state election, which we all remember it clearly, based on an article from New Strait Times last year.

“Added to that, both of the party’s presidents gave their assurance that they will not contest in the state election,” said Robert.

He added that there would also be a question of which party in the GPS coalition was willing to give its seat to Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate if it was allowed to contest.

On the Krian seat in which the incumbent is from Bersatu, Ayu said, “PDP has contested here in all previous elections. For the next election, we have identified our candidate and he has been actively moving on the ground.

“The current incumbent for Krian Datuk Ali Biju himself had given his support to GPS and he should not contest the seat again,” he asserted.
