PUNCAK BORNEO: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Datuk Willie Mongin asked the voters in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency not to believe the propaganda, deceit and slanders circulated by individuals and groups who are fighting for the opposition’s agenda.
He also reminded his supporters to be patient with negativities thrown by supporters of the opposing candidates at him.
“I call on my supporters and GPS with full discipline and do not make personal attacks on the candidates of the opposing party,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.
He said voters and people in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary area should not be influenced and believe all the lies and slanders spread on social media.
On the other hand, he said the people need to see all the development projects, welfare and social work that he has worked on even though he served as a people’s representative for only about four years.
According to Willie, within four years, he successfully appealed to the federal government to implement several big projects in the Puncak Borneo constituency.
Among these are the construction of a larger and more modern Siburan Health Clinic, Sekolah Kebangsaan Taba Sait at the the Bengoh Dam Resettlement Scheme which is the most modern school in the Borneo Peak area, the street lights along the Borneo Heights Road starting from Kota Padawan to Kampung Annah Rais which has already been approved and tendered, to be implemented in December this year.
He also lobbied hard for the construction of at least 49 telecommunication towers to improve Internet coverage in the Puncak Borneo constituency, adding that some of the towers have been completed, while others are under construction.
In addition, he also approved grants for the construction of farm roads with several villages in the constituency, in addition to providing educational assistance to students who pursued their studies at universities and higher education centres
During his four years as a representative of the people of Puncak Borneo, Willie also helped a lot of poor families and chronic patients by giving one-off assistance.
He also helps poor families through the approval and construction of houses under the Hardcore Poor Housing Program (PPRT).
Meanwhile, Willie’s campaigning process during these two days went smoothly which saw a large number of turnout.
However, some of his supporters who are upset with the personal attacks of the opposition and certain individuals against Willie want all the attacks thrown through social media to be rebutted immediately.
“Even though the number of critics and those hardcore supporters of the opposition party are not many, but if this kind of slanders and fake information are allowed to circulate it can influence the thinking of voters, especially those who are less intellectual,” said Peter Atong.
Willie’s supporters also advised the incumbent candidate and the campaign machinery not to take the campaign lightly and the issues played by the party and the opposing candidates.
