LIMBANG: Incumbent Limbang MP Datuk Hasbi Habibollah’s track record of service and delivery of promises have not gone unnoticed in the state.
An impressed Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said for this reason he deserved the people’s continued backing come the 15th General Election (GE15).
In a press release today (July 4) he also pointed to another rationale for supporting him – the fact that Hasbi is a deputy federal Minister of Rural Development.
“This is a ‘lubok pemansang luar bandar’ or the centre of rural development projects. It is a most crucial one for rural folk,” he was quoted as saying at a Gawai Dinner in Medamit town as part of the Pesta Medamit on Sunday.
Uggah said in view of the impending GE15, the opposition would be going around to spread wild propaganda, making accusations and instigating to get people to reject Hasbi.
Should the people choose to believe the opposition he likened it to an act of ‘buang tuah’ (throwing away their great fortune).
“Hasbi too is from the ruling GPS government in the state. This is a government that has been making the people’s overall well-being among its priorities. It is a government for all races in the state.
“Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is a leader for all races. The GPS government’s policies are very inclusive,” he stated.
Uggah noted that the narrative is proved by the establishment of the Unit for Other Religions(UNIFOR) which looks after the needs and concerns of all other non-Islamic religions in the state.
He said numerous churches, temples, and chapels had benefitted from UNIFOR.
“Then we have the eight regional development agencies formed to plan for and accelerate developments in all areas state-wide. It wants all nooks and corners of the state to benefit.
“At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the state government had also spent much to help the people and in fighting the spread,” he said.
In comparison, Uggah pointed out that the opposition had merely been making empty promises.
Meanwhile, on the requests for more Iban community leaders to be appointed in the Limbang Division, Uggah said he had told the Limbang Resident’s Office to study the matter.
“The office could come up with a list of potential leaders and send it to the State Secretary’s Office for consideration,” he said.
Also present was Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang.
