PAKAN: This year (2020), Malaysia is supposed to be a developed nation, but the roads here are still the same as in the 80’s – in a very miserable condition.
“It has not changed like the road at logging camps, even though it leads to longhouses including schools and clinics,” said a resident Danggat Chabu, 42.
From Rumah Menyimbung, Sungai Ridan, Ulu Entaih close to Sarikei, Danggat shared his sorrow in seeing school children forced to go through the muddy road.
He pointed out the condition of the main road to Kemedu at Jalan Ulu Entaih which serves 14 longhouses.
“It has not changed at all, it is still the same as the 70’s and 80’s. There is no need to dream of flying cars if the road is still like this,” he lamented.
He was representing the locals at Ulu Entaih seeking the help of the relevant parties to repair and upgrade the 25-km road.
Danggat claimed the road was damaged and only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles. “Even then, it is still difficult because the mud is very thick,” he said when contacted yesterday.
He shared some photos, saying that the condition of the road worsened during the monsoon season, whereby the surface of the road became slippery.
“It is dangerous for the estimated 1,000 residents who rely heavily on the road. This road connects a primary school, that is, SK Ulu Entaih, and two clinics – Nanga Kara and Pakan,” he said adding that since the road was opened to the public in 2003, it had to be repaired five times.
He hoped that works to repair or tarseal the road would be expedited for the convenience and safety of the residents.
Danggat emphasised that the condition of the road was even more dangerous at night.
