KUCHING: Sarawakians, especially those celebrating the Chinese New Year (CNY), have been reminded to do away with the ‘3L’ syndrome – ‘Lupa, Leka dan Lalai’ or ‘forgetfulness, carelessness, and negligence’.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Khirudin Drahman said this was important to avoid any unwanted incident throughout the celebration.

“It is part of our job to remind the public about the dangers of fire if you are careless.

Dr Sim and Khirudin speaking to the media.

“We have always talked about the 3L syndrome, so when we celebrate the CNY, please don’t forget about the dangers that can happen if we have the syndrome,” he said during the state-level fire safety campaign at Bomba Jalan Padungan here on Friday (Jan 28).

“Action during the first five minutes of a fire incident is very important (while waiting for firefighters to arrive).

“We hope that by reminding the public, they can take proper action to tackle any incident that may happen.”

Khirudin said Bomba, despite being a federal agency, continued to engage with the community in creating awareness through its various programmes.

“Community involvement is very important as without the community, we will not exist.

“So, we make sure to deliver what we promised to the community and we are here to help and protect.”

He added firefighters would also carry out patrols during the festive season.

Apart from fire, the public must also take extra precaution as Covid-19 is still lurking, he advised.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Public Health, Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian officiated at the event.

Also present was Kuching City South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
