KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawakian who are studying, working or residing in Peninsula Malaysia have been reminded to always remember where they came from.

Caretaker Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said regardless of wherever they are and whatever they are up to, Sarawakian must never forget their roots.

“If you become successful, never forget your roots, do not forget where you started.

“Set an example and help your loved ones, friends, and fellow Sarawakian,” he said.

He said this during the ‘Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak’ 2022 dinner reception which was graced by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here last night (Oct 15).

Fadillah, who is also the incumbent for Petra Jaya also called upon Sarawakian to fulfil their duty to the state when given the opportunity.

“If it is not you, who will? Remember, only Sarawakian will truly defend the fate of Sarawakians, and not outsiders,” he said.

On another note, Fadillah said Sarawak is the only state in Malaysia that organises the annual Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak programme for Sarawakian on a big scale.

“The Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak started with a ‘Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri Anak Sarawak’ at the Yayasan Sarawak Office in Kuala Lumpur in 2008.

“Following the good response to the  programme, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who was the chief minister then had officially announced the programme to be an official Sarawak government event,” he said, while adding that the programme was then named Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak in 2011.

Starting from just 1,000 participants when it was first held, Fadillah said the number of participants to the programme has grown larger as the years go by.

“After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are finally able to gather more than 6,000 Sarawak students of various backgrounds to this programme this time and at the same time they can meet the Sarawak state leaders,” he said.
