BINTULU: Educators are advised not to focus only on academic teaching, but instead, need to instil a spirit of unity and harmony among their students, especially the younger generation.

Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing made the suggestion when speaking at the Sungai Tisang National School (SK) PTA Charity Dinner in conjunction with the 49th anniversary celebration, here, on Saturday night.

He explained that it was important to produce future tiers of the country who could live together in a plural society with mutual respect and tolerance.

In the meantime, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture also urged the Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) of the school to continue enhancing active cooperation with the school management especially in planning various activities that could integrate various ethnicities.

“It is important to ensure that the phenomenon of division by creating racial and religious issues do not spread to Sarawak because it will definitely harm all parties and, worst still, create discord among the people thus disrupting the well-being and social peace of the community,” he said.
