KUCHING: Parti Rakyak Sarawak (PRS) Youth has asked United People’s Party (UPP) Youth chief, Dr Johnichal Rayong Ngipa not to meddle in PRS’ affairs.
PRS Youth Information Chief, Cr Andy Lawrence said Johnichal, who was from another party, had crossed the line by making statements on the PRS’ parliamentary candidate for Lubok Antu.
“He should focus on serving his party and constituency rather than trying to meddle in or interfere with PRS affairs,” said Andy in a statement.
“Anyone who is not PRS member and not in the BN family has no locus standi to nominate PRS or BN candidate,” said Andy.
The PRS Youth has lambasted Johnichal for his statement which was printed in a local daily.
It was reported that while Rayong and Lubok Antu Member of Parliament, Datuk William Nyallau were officiating Rumah Imau’s new roofing and closing of the Gawai Dayak function, Rayong, who is Engkilili State Assemblyman, had said that “there should not be any other person nominated as the BN candidate in Lubok Antu.”
“I represent 27 heads of longhouses in Batang Ai Hilir and Lower Skrang who are also present here now. We wholeheartedly support YB Datuk Nyallau as our next candidate during the 14th general election.
“If any outsider is to be brought here, we are sorry for him or her. Maybe our locals are not that willing to support whoever that outsider is, wholeheartedly,” Rayong was reportedly saying in a speech.
It has been rumoured that Nyallau, a third-term MP for Lubok Antu, will be replaced by a woman candidate, much speculated to be PRS Women Chief, Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie.
The parliamentary constituency of Lubok Antu, which is predominately an Iban area, consists of Batang Ai and Engkilili state constituencies.
Rayong’s support for Nyallau has been construed by PRS Youth as meddling in the party’s business.
