LUBOK ANTU: Corruption and abuse of power must not be normalised, as they undermine trust and loyalty within agencies and disrupt the fundamental principles of the country.
Acting Lubok Antu district officer Akoi Ejau said that issues of non-compliance, poor governance, and corruption have been going around a lot.
“These issues need to be resolved thoroughly and should not be taken lightly.
“Hence, public awareness is crucial to educate them about abuse of power and corruption, as well as the measures to combat such issues.
“Through such programme, we can identify participants who can be highlighted as integrity agents, fostering a culture of integrity within organisations,” he said during the Lubok Antu Integrity Executive Talk 2024 at Engkilili Multipurpose Hall on Tuesday.
He added that integrity is crucial for an organisation’s reputation and effectiveness, and it helps instil a continuous culture of integrity among civil servants, the public, and community leaders.
Civil servants play a key role in delivering efficient and effective services while community leaders and village chiefs are essential in translating government policies to the community.
Akoi pointed out that both parties are responsible for promoting best practices in good governance, including integrity, transparency, and accountability.
The Integrity Executive Talk was attended by more than 250 people comprising officers and staff of Lubok Antu district office, heads of departments, senior officials from state and federal governments, officers of statutory bodies, school principals, headmasters, and officials from mosques and churches.
