KUCHING: Do not pull another chair to a table already designated for a specific number of people.

This is  the  advice of Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) chairman Lo Khere Chiang to the public.

“In coffeeshops, a  table for two persons means for two persons-lah. Don’t drag another chair to make it three and then another person drags another chair to make it four.

“Unless it is a big round table, make sure you comply with one-metre social distancing. For that round table, the best way is to at least put an empty chair in between the occupied chairs,” he told a press conference held via Zoom Meeting app on Thursday (July 30).

“Social distancing is what we must practise in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Although the  advice might have been repeated  continuously, it was still necessary to repeat it to ensure that  members of the public adhered to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government to curb the spread of the virus, he said.

Lo added that MPP had been taking necessary precautions such as disinfection works at markets as well as ensuring that business operators comply with  the SOPs.

In another development, Lo also shared that  Persatuan Penjaja Pasar Sg Maong (Batu 3)  collaborated with the MPP to carry out a sanitisation operation at the Sg Maong Market on Monday (July 27).

He said 95 hawkers at the market participated in the one-day ‘gotong-royong’ (group work) activity.

“I hope more markets would come forward and follow suit to  initiate cleaning works like Sg Maong Market without waiting for MPP,” he said.

On complaints from the members of the public that naming a Covid-19 cluster the “Sentosa Cluster” had raised fears among the public and made them afraid to go near the  area, Lo said the name was necessary because it was the truth.

“I agree with the name because the reporting has to be correct. What was reported was only truth.

“The name of the cluster was correct as the virus did not only affect the Sentosa Hospital but also the whole community,” he said.
