We know any wrong step we take will cause the future generations to suffer: CM
KUCHING: In every decision-making, Sarawak cannot afford to take the wrong steps or else the future generations will suffer, warned Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday.
Sarawakians, he said, were smart enough and not “paloi” in whatever actions they made. (The word “paloi” in Sarawak Malay means stupid.)
“I am already 69 years old, and from my experience, when we fight, we must be extra careful and not rush into things,” Abang Johari added when officiating at the Darul Hana Carnival 2019 at the Darul Hana Mosque here yesterday.
Although the Chief Minister did not mention any particular matter when he said Sarawak had to be cautious, it is believed he was referring to the Amendment Bill of Article 1 (2) of the Federal Constitution which was opposed by Sarawak leaders and lawmakers recently.
Abang Johari also stressed that Sarawak and its development could only be managed by Sarawakians alone.
“We understand our hardships but the West Malaysians don’t.
“That is why in terms of administration and management, only children of Sarawak are capable of doing it,” he pointed out.
Abang Johari said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-led government would continue its responsibility to deliver what it had been promised to the people.
“We will also ensure that the people are not left out from any development in the state.
“Again, I’ve said we must be careful in our planning… by also getting inputs and feedbacks on how we can better develop Sarawak in the Federation of Malaysia,” he said.
Abang Johari added younger leaders would be trained to take over and continue the efforts started by Pehin Sri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and also himself.
“Most importantly, in all this planning, administration and management of Sarawak, we must maintain and preserve our unity,” he said.
