KUCHING: The use of the word ‘Allah’ by Christians for religious and publication purposes is not an issue in Sarawak and should not be made as political material by some parties, said Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
“The Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has made it clear that it is not an issue in Sarawak.
“Even the top government leaders know about this sentiment. Therefore, there is no need for us to seek publicity,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after a briefing on the Program Malaysia Prihatin, at a hotel here on Saturday (March 20).
On the federal government’s appeal against the High Court’s decision allowing Christians to use the word ‘Allah’ in their publications and preachings, Nanta said they had the right to do so.
He added that the law allowed the federal government to appeal the court’s decision.
“What’s important is that the issue has nothing to do with us here,” Nanta pointed out.
