SEBUYAU: Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali has assured that Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) has no platform in Sarawak.

She said non-Muslims in the state need not to worry about PAS as Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is not in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

“Do not be afraid that PAS will enter and implement Hudud law. This is all untrue and nonsense.

“PAS has no platform in Sarawak,” she told reporters when met during the Sarawak Kita Empun programme at Dewan Pembangunan Sebuyau yesterday.

She said in fact, in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), it has been stated that people in Sarawak are free to practice their respective religions according to their beliefs.

“Religion is under the jurisdiction of the state and only GPS, a local-based party, can ensure those rights are protected,” she said.

On GPS being part of PN in the federal government, she said GPS has its own composition when being invited to be in Federal Cabinet.

“It is up to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin to appoint anyone in the Federal Cabinet.

“But as Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said, Muhyiddin had extended an invitation for us to join the Federal Cabinet,” she said.

She said therefore Abang Johari wants to make a collective decision before accepting the offer.

“GPS is different from PN. But the chief minister’s formula (PN Plus GPS) is where we are selected in the Federal Cabinet as partners,” she said.
