KUCHING: Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications staff need not worry or fear if they are disseminating information and facts correctly on social media, especially in WhatsApp groups.
Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said no one would fault them if they posted accurate messages or information say, on WhatsApp groups, where higher management was likely to be in the group too.
“We have formed at least four WhatsApp chat groups chats to discuss utility and telecommunication (water and electrical supply) issues in our state.
“I understand that it can be pretty scary when we present the facts to the chat grous, but I can assure you there is no need to be worried about it.
“This is because we present the right facts and information, therefore do not be nervous when presenting the information,” he said at the ministry’s appreciation and pre-Gawai dinner at Margherita Hotel here last night (May 23).
Julaihi said he had received feedback from higher-ups that they were happy to have the chat groups as they were able to receive “tons of information the quickest way possible and from there we can work on the information quickly”.
“Thanks to this, we can see great and positive cooperation from the staff and the agency under my ministry,” he added.
The minister was also happy to note the multi-ethnic composition of the ministry’s staff, saying this unique feature was common in government departments and ministries in Sarawak.
“This is normal, and unity among the races is much stronger than ever,” he said.
Also present were Julaihi’s deputies Datuk Liwan Lagang and Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
