MIRI: A double-storey house at Lorong 5, Riam Jaya was partially destroyed by a fire on Sunday (May 23).
Firemen from the Miri Fire station arrived at the scene at 2.46 pm after receiving a distress call on the incident around 2.33 pm.
Zone 6 fire chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the firemen were able to control the blaze within minutes.
“The fire engulfed about 40 percent of the house structure,” said Law.
The firemen also rescued a 21-year-old occupant of the house.
“He was found sitting on a roof outside a second floor room in a weak condition with some injuries on his body,” Law added.
The man was rushed to the Miri Hospital for medical treatment.
The firemen ended their operations at 3.22 pm.
However, the actual cause of the incident is not immediately known as investigation is still underway.
