KUCHING: Sarawak is making significant strides in advancing the electronic sports (e-Sports) industry with the launch of its first e-Sports Training Hub and Certification Academy in the state located at JUMA’ANI Pavilion here.

According to a press statement by Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) Commercial, the initiative was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“This hub will serve as the main centre for developing local talent in the e-Sports sector. Not only focusing on professional players, this hub will also play a crucial role in building careers for individuals working behind the scenes, including in technical, marketing, and e-Sports management roles.

“The hub was established through a collaboration between the TVET HRD Corp programme and CENTEXS Commercial, with the primary mission of honing the potential of Sarawak’s youth.

“Through structured training programmes, the hub offers young people the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills within the growing e-Sports ecosystem. This includes training in game programming, e-Sports event management, as well as the creation of digital content, which is increasingly important in this industry,” it said.

Through the strategic partnership, the e-Sports hub at JUMA’ANI Pavilion is expected to be a key driver in developing a skilled and professional workforce within the local e-Sports industry.

CENTEXS Commercial said the programme aims not only to produce world-class players but also to create job opportunities in the technology and e-Sports management sectors, which are crucial for the growth of this sector in Sarawak.

“With the latest gaming technology and accredited training programmes, this hub offers opportunities for youth to enter the rapidly growing industry. Among the facilities provided are training and development centres, competition rooms for matches, production rooms, racing simulators, and a high-tech e-Sports café.

“The hub is also expected to create a sustainable ecosystem for players, fans, and e-Sports enthusiasts in Sarawak, further strengthening Malaysia as a key destination for e-Sports tourism in the region,” it added.

The CENTEXS Satellite Campus at JUMA’ANI Pavilion will play a significant role as a venue for tournaments, training for both professional and amateur players, and as a networking centre for industry stakeholders.
