KUCHING: Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi (pic) vows to perform well in all his three new areas of responsibility in the state Cabinet. He is now an Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office for Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) as well as Assistant Minister for Water Supply under the Utilities Ministry. Previously, he was Rural Electricity Assistant Minister in the same ministry.
“I have been with the Utilities Ministry for over a year so it is not an issue for me when my portfolio changed from Rural Electricity Assistant Minister to Water Supply Assistant Minister. This is because I have been working closely with our officers in handling water supply issues from time to time,” he said.
On Islamic affairs, he stated that he was given “ad hoc” responsibility to assist Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for one year and two months.
“The difference is that this time, it is official,” he told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed minister and assistant minister at the Astana here, yesterday.
On the new mandate of taking care of DBKU, he stated that it is a completly new responsibility which he needs to put more focus on by working closely with the new management of DBKU to increase its performance as a better city commission. He hoped that he can perform his duty of taking care of all three areas. DBKU is the direct responsibility of the chief minister since its incorporation in 1998.
