SIBU: The public has been reminded to take necessary precautions in the event of a possible resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the state.
Deputy Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee pointed out that recent data has indicated a surge in COVID-19 cases, particularly in Malaya.
“I don’t want to label it as an increase first, even though the data shows an increase. But here in Sarawak, we ask for it not to experience a sudden spike like in the Peninsula.
” If another outbreak occurs, we are well-prepared and aware of the preventive measures needed—such as maintaining cleanliness, using face masks, and avoiding crowded places,” he said in his speech when officiated the Pre-Christmas Dinner organised by Youth Briged and Rumah Panjang N.55 Nangka women’s bureau at MUC Hall here last night (Dec 15).
Dr Annuar stressed the familiarity of the public with these precautionary measures, expressing confidence that their adherence would mitigate potential issues.
“During this festive season, it’s crucial to stay vigilant,” he added.
Regarding the event, he commended the event organisers for fostering inclusivity by inviting individuals from diverse communities to celebrate together.
“In Sarawak, we maintain such an atmosphere. During Gawai, we celebrate together, and the same goes for Hari Raya and Chinese New Year. That’s why we need to prioritise tolerance and mutual respect for each other,” he said.
Also present were Temenggong Stanley Gramong, Longhouse Chief Eddy Jemat, Pemanca Paing Tawi and Councillor Raden Khairulzaman Raden Bustari among others.
