BETONG: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for the Betong parliamentary seat, Dr Richard Rapu@Aman Begri is confident of delivering the seat to the state’s ruling coalition.
Dr Rapu has expressed his confidence of winning as he has made his preparations for quite a while.
Dr Rapu, 59, a veterinarian by training and a political secretary to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was proposed by Bukit Saban assemblyman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and seconded by Saribas assemblyman Mohd Razi Sitam.
He will face Patrick Kamis, 58, of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and independent, Hasbie Satar, 48.
Dr Rapu said he is very fortunate because Uggah, Mohd Razi and Layar assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu have all worked very hard in their respective constituencies which make up the Betong seat.
He also took time to complement the three politicians as they have done a lot in contributing to the development of Betong.
“As a rookie politician, I will need a lot of support and stand to be guided by them, especially Uggah, a veteran politician and a deputy Sarawak Premier.
“My responsibility, if I win, is to work closely with them to complement their efforts and initiatives in making Betong more progressive.
“I hope Betong voters will give me their fullest support to ensure Betong stays with GPS.
“Their strong support too will reciprocate our Premier’s graciousness in approving the formation of Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).
“BDDA is poised to raise the bar in Betong’s future progress and prosperity.
“We must not allow such a strategic plan and programme to go to waste”, he said after successfully filling his nomination paper before Returning Officer Alfred Geling Ason at Betong District Office yesterday.
Earlier, more than 2,000 GPS supporters accompanied Dr Rapu to the nomination centre.
