KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Betong Dr Richard Rapu@ Aman Begri pledged to focus more on the development that has and will be implemented in the area.
Rapu, a new-face fielded by GPS managed to defend the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) stronghold and expressed his gratitude for his supporters.
“Our focus is indeed to continue the development that has been planned by the GPS government in line with Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu).
“I will also work closely with the three state assemblymen under Betong parliamentary constituency namely Razi Sitam (Saribas), Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu (Layar) and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas (Bukit Saban).
“I am ready to cooperate and support all the efforts of the GPS government,” he said when approached by the media at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching last night after the announcement of the results.
Rapu garnered a total of 16,479 votes and defeated his opponents, Pakatan Harapan (PH) Patrick Kamis @ Hj Kameng (5,177 votes) and Independent Hasbie Satar (5,057 votes).
He led the three-cornered fight with a majority of 11,302 votes.
