BAU: Everyone is entitled to their opinions and now the government has chosen her, it is hoped Latheefa Beebi Koya will deliver what is expected of her, said Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
He was commenting on Latheefa’s recent appointment as the new chief commissioner of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) while speaking to reporters after the launch of the Borneo Tribal Fest 2019 at Borneo Tribal Village, Kampung Apar, Singai in Bau, yesterday.
Rundi pointed out that Latheefa had already resigned from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Asked whether the Borneo Tribal Village needed more communication towers to increase its internet access, Rundi said there was a need.
“In places like these, internet access is needed to develop e-commerce.
“The communication tower is not the only answer. Other services must be provided by the telecommunication service providers such as Digi, Maxis, Celcom and others,” he said.
Rundi added that the State Multimedia Authority (SMA) would be building 300 more communication towers in the state this year and 300 more next year.
“There is a lot that needs to be improved for the telecommunication towers in rural areas as we are building as far as Long Busang.
“Areas beyond may need to use satellites and other means of communications,” he said.
Rundi revealed that the state would be looking at Brunei to meet its telecommunications needs as the sultanate had suppliers of seven terabyte products.
“All we need is about one or two-terabyte hard drives to come into Sarawak and then we can make sure the internet coverage to rural areas will be sufficient,” he said.
