KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has congratulated the outgoing Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) permanent secretary Datuk Hii Chang Kee for being appointed as the Deputy State Secretary.
Hii, 55, who hails from Sibu, is the first Chinese to hold such a position in the state.
“Heartiest congratulations to Datuk Hii Chang Kee for being promoted to one of three deputy Sarawak secretaries.
“Thanks to people like Hii, who is willing to choose to join and stay on to serve so that we can continue to be inclusive and contribute to the nation-building of Sarawak,” he said in his social media post today (Dec 31).
Dr Sim, who is also the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, said that he has always encouraged the Sarawak Civil Service (SCC) to be inclusive of all races, religions and genders.
“I had shared various recruitments for the SCC advertised in Chinese newspapers, with the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) listed as a recognised qualification. (This is) only in Sarawak,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hii had served as the Sibu Municipal Council secretary for 23 years, from 1992 to 2015, and then served as the Sibu Resident from 2016 to 2017.
Following that, he became the MTCP’s permanent secretary from 2018 until 2022.
He will be reporting for duty as the deputy state secretary this coming Tuesday (Jan 3).
