KUCHING: The 14th General Election is not just an election for the parliamentary seat but it is fight to ensure Sarawak rights in Malaysian Agreement (MA63) returned to the state, said state Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Stampin, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“This election is not just an election for Stampin, for Miri but it a fight to ensure our rights in MA63 returned, therefore we need the very best candidiate to go down and those who can fight for us,” he said when met by reporters after attending the press conference held in conjunction with state BN candidates announcement at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Headquarters, Jalan Bako, yesterday.
Sim, who is among the new faces for GE14 state BN candidates said his party, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is making sure that they have the best candidates who can fight for stronger Sarawak.
“I am very appreciative on the different group from the party for giving me different advice and understanding because it is not an easy decision, as for SUPP now there are so many good candidates who are all potentialy capable of becoming a good leaders.
“But I want to ensure them that there will be opportunity coming out very soon for example, I have to resign myself immediately as a senator of Parliament of Malaysia and also within the next 5 to 6 years, because as a president, which I need at least maximum 3 terms, this is my beginning of fifth year, so there is another four and half years to go,” he told.
Sim who is also the Local Government and Housing Minister said after that, there are lot opportunities for the young people to take over from his position.
“We want to groom them as fast as possible but now we want to focus in this election first and win the election and after that, as far as SUPP is concerned, SUPP is actively making sure the young generations are ready because if they are not ready, we are in trouble as time is a factor to me,” he added.
Commenting on his fight with opponent candidate from Democratic Action Party (DAP) Chong Chieng Jen, Sim said he always tells the voters and the public that they can make judgment and can see who are sincere, who has done a lot and sacrifices so much to walk the talk.
“So I want people in Sarawsk to focus and no more ‘tengok saja’, we want the people to judge and see for themselves on who speaks what in parliament,” he stressed adding that Sarawak people need to judge for what they have fought for in Parliament, over the years what they have done for the state.
“I tell everybody that for me as far as I concerned, I have a few more years to complete my mission.
“As soon as the election finishes, I will focus on making sure the next generation is ready to take over from me as they must be able to speak and in politics you need a lot of wisdom and judgment,” he mentioned.
