KUCHING: Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian hopes that with the completion of the land and survey work for the Batu Kawa Second Bridge and new access road, other related works can also be expedited as well.

The Deputy Premier said this would ensure that the project can be constructed as soon as possible.

“I praised the Land and Survey Department for its swift work in completing an important milestone on the project and the next step is to actively handle land acquisition and project tender matters.

“This massive and significant development project will cost RM160 million, covering the construction of a second Batu Kawa Bridge over Sungai Sarawak plus a new dual carriageway road with a total length of over five kilometres and both will help to alleviate current ongoing traffic issues,” he said this in a recent statement.

Dr Sim, who is the Batu Kawa assemblyman since 2016, has been focused on addressing the traffic congestion issue by constructing new roads to disperse traffic flow.

“In recent years, numerous new access roads have been completed such as Tan Sri Wee Boon Ping Road which connects Jalan Stephen Yong to 4 1/2 miles, new access road from Kampung Segedup to Jalan Sungai Maong and Matang, and Kwang Tiong Garden alternative access road.

“All the above new roads are open to traffic and have eased the heavy traffic congestion,” he added.

He said a new access road to Ensing Timur Road from Datuk Tan Men Chong Road/Stapok Utama Junction Road, Batu Kawa is currently under construction.

Meanwhile, since all road taxes collected go to the federal government, Dr Sim urged the Sarawak MPs to fight for more federal-funded road development projects to address traffic congestion across the state.
