SIBU: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has commended the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) for its proactive approach in organising medical programmes that benefit the people.
He said that MMA Sarawak has been active in organising medical talks and conferences, corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, such as public forums, blood donation campaigns, and assistance to needy families.
“Membership Drives for doctors and medical students are conducted throughout Sarawak.
“In recognition of all these, MMA Sarawak was accorded with the 2nd Most Active Branch Award during the 2023 National AGM in Kota Kinabalu. Congratulations,” he said.
He said this in his speech read out by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek at the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Sarawak’s 51 Anniversary dinner here last night (Oct 21).
Regarding the dinner, Dr Sim, who is also the Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Minister, noted that it was the first time the anniversary dinner was hosted in Sibu after all these years.
“Congratulations to the MMA Sibu Sub-Committee for taking up the challenge to host this auspicious occasion.
“It certainly gives an opportunity for doctors all over Sarawak to not only meet old friends but make new friends too,” he said.
At the event Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck and Dr Betty Kong Ming Khian have been awarded the MMA Sarawak branch Honour Award and Public Service Award, respectively, in recognition of their contributions and service to the medical profession and community,
Also present were MMA president Dr Azizan Abdul Aziz, MMA Sarawak Chairman, Dr Liew Shan Fap and others.
