KUCHING: Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Cheng Guangzhong and his wife Prof Gao Cuilian have made enormous contributions to the Sarawak-China bilateral relationship in the last four years.
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian pointed out that Sarawak was fortunate to have a good and comprehensive bilateral relationship at the government-to-government level as well as people-to-people with China.
“Sincerest thank you to Cheng and his wife for the enormous contributions during their term, especially in the challenging time of Covid-19.
“We are very sure that the bilateral relationship will further progress as we are moving into the endemic phase and living with the Covid-19 virus,” he said in a post on Wednesday (March 30) after attending an online farewell reception for Cheng.
Dr Sim pointed out that there was much to do and to accelerate in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 for a prosperous, strong, inclusive and environmentally sustainable Sarawak.
Wishing the couple a safe trip home and the best of health, he stated that he looked forward to meeting them again in China or Sarawak in the near future.
Separately, Deputy Minister I for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, who also attended the reception, thanked Cheng and his wife for their support.
“He is a very humble and caring person. During the pandemic, China has been supporting Sarawak by sending personal protective equipment (PPEs) and face masks.
“China and Sarawak always have strong support. We hope Cheng and his wife can come back as tourists and visit Sarawak again.”
