KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has been tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, however, has not develop any symptoms.
He had gone for a Reaction Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test earlier and was shocked that the result came back positive.
He said the test was done before an overseas official trip.
“My pre-travel PCR test for official overseas travelling came back COVID19 positive just now,” he wrote in his Facebook page late last night.
“No symptoms and my daily morning self-testing for the last few days has been negative. The positive results come as a shock as I had daily self-testing, always double masks, hand washing and followed SOP,” he added.
Sim, who is also the Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Minister said this the current Omicron variant was very infectious and challenging to fight the surge of the cases.
He will be self-isolating and self-monitoring for seven days, according to the latest SOP issued by Health Ministry for Covid-19 positive case.
“My sincere apologies for those who come into contact with me over the last few days. Please follow the Health Ministry’s latest SOP on close contacts,” he added.
