KUCHING: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch, has commended party president and Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian for his excellent services in the 100 days he has held the post.

Branch chairman, Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok, said Dr Sim has worked hard and diligently since he was appointed Deputy Premier as well as the Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government.

“Given that he has almost served for 100 days, we can see that he not only maintains his paddle but he also maintains the momentum of his work even at a higher level.

“We can follow his daily updates on his work through his social media. His medical qualifications as an experienced cardiologist have helped him run his ministry in a systematic, effective and efficient manner, ” he told Suara Sarawak in a recent interview.

He also said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Sim’s role as an advisor to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has helped the people of Sarawak get fully vaccinated against the virus.

“He also did not neglect his role for his area, where demands and problems were resolved quickly such as an iconic park on the banks of the Batu Kawa River has become an example of how public parks can be built and accessible as well as liked by all.

“There are more iconic developments for the well-being of Batu Kawa residents such as developing an old quarry site into a recreational park with hotels and facilities for the public and tourists,” he added.

On health, he said the Batu Kawa assemblyman was actively working to get a cancer hospital in Samarahan from the Federal government which would save more lives of Sarawakians, besides saving patients’ time, reducing travel and other costs in getting their essential treatment.

On housing, he noted that the ministry was currently building more than 2,000 affordable houses, monitoring and implementing the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) of up to RM10,000 for first-time B40 and M40 home buyers.

“This includes improving the Buildings Ordinance and implementing the recently amended Strata Titles Ordinance.

“This measure will enable us improve our standard of living by creating more business and employment opportunities. The use of digital technology to drive our business and economy will also help in improving our standard of living and income.”
