KUCHING: The 15th general election (GE15) will be an important election to decide the next federal government ruling the country, said Bandar Kuching candidate Dr Kelvin Yii.
Dr Yii, who contest for Pakatan Harapan (PH) said that this is the time for the people to choose the federal government either lead by party that fights for certain race, a party that is corrupt, a party that is extreme or PH that really believes in multiculturalism, inclusivity and addressing issues that are close to the hearts of the people.
“In the campaign later, I will start sharing my ideas and policy not just important for Bandar Kuching but also on the national level where we would concentrate on issue such as education where our young people should focus on adequate and equitable and quality education.
“On top of that, we will fight for jobs for our young people as well as age care, economic care for our elderly even in Bandar Kuching and also in Malaysia in general.
“This is what we are going to bring to the people. We are going to bring our bullets and our strength on what we want to do for the people as we build a multicultural inclusive Malaysia for all,” he told reporters after the announcement of candidates by Election Commission (EC) at the nomination centre in the Kuching Community Hall here yesterday.
He said he is also excited for this election because this is the first time young people can vote.
“This shows the inclusivity and also spirit of multiculturalism that PH has to fight. If it wasn’t for what PH did, the young people would not have the voice and today is the result of our inclusivity and our belief in empowering young people,” he added.
Meanwhile, another candidate from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Voon Lee Shan said that the local opposition party wants to restore all rights lost in Sarawak after the formation of Malaysia.
“First and foremost, we want to return Sarawak into its original position. “I hope Bandar Kuching will give me the chance one more time,” he told.
The Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat will see a three-cornered fight in the GE15 between Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Eric Tay Tze Kok, Dr Yii and Voon.
