KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii paid tribute to the late Dr Chen Men Hin, the founding chairman and life adviser of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), who died on Wednesday aged 97.
Describing Chen as fundamental to the establishment of DAP, Dr Yii said he was considered the first member of the party with his membership number being 000001.
“He was a trained medical doctor, while helping and treating patients from all backgrounds for free in his Seremban home, he found the need to be part of politics to change the national landscape as well as to fight for a Malaysian Malaysia.
“It is because of great leaders like him that younger politicians like us have the platform right now to fight for a better Malaysia,” he said on Yesterday (Aug 19).
Dr Yii said he was proud and honoured to have had great leaders like Chen who sacrificed himself for the betterment of Malaysia and showed how impossible things can be done with perseverance.
“We are standing on the shoulders of a giant. May the late Chen rest in peace,” he added.
