Dr Zaiedi Suhaili has been reappointed as Senator for another three-year term by members of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) during the sitting yesterday.
His appointment was proposed by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and seconded by Water Supply Assistant Minister and Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang.
Awang Tengah said Zaiedi had served Sarawak with dedication and distinction since he was elected Senator.
“Despite his heavy public duties, Zaiedi has been rendering exemplary services to the community through various non-governmental and charitable organisations.
“I am confident he will continue to serve the people in Sarawak with admirable commitment and to advance the interest of Sarawak and safeguard our constitutional rights,” he said.
When approached by reporters at the DUN lobby, Zaiedi conveyed his appreciation to the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Awang Tengah and all the DUN members for putting their trust in him.
“It is an honour to serve and I will do my best to serve as Senator and to fight for Sarawak rights,” he said.
Zaiedi, 64, served as a civil servant for 11 years before being appointed as political secretary to various Federal Ministries for nine years.
He has been active in politics since 1998. He was a member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth Satok Branch from 1988 to 1991, Youth Chief of PBB Tupong from 1992 to 1995 and deputy chairman of PBB Tupong in 1996.
Zaiedi was also appointed deputy chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council from 2014 until 2016.
Elected Senator by the august House on July 19, 2016, he held the post until July 18, 2019.
