SARAWAK BUILDING ORDINANCE REVIEW

KUCHING: Meaningful progress has been made with the completion of a draft for the revision of the Sarawak Building Ordinance, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said this after chairing the recent Joint Technical Consultative Committee (JTCC) meeting held by his Ministry together with professional engineers and architects.

“I will try my best to safeguard the autonomy of Sarawak’s professional engineers and architects as the national professional organisation do not represent Sarawak’s interests meaningfully, and not in line with our Sarawak Local Government autonomy,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Dr Sim said the key responsibility of elected representatives was to amend or pass good laws in the Parliament.

“Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, everyone can speak up for the people,” he said.

At the same time, he expressed pride that all 26 local government councils, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), as well as professional engineers and architects, were coming together and walking the talk for a better Sarawak.

Dr Sim added that this was especially while they were in such a position to do so now rather than regretting it once they were no longer in position or retired.

According to him, JTCC meetings restarted as biennial meetings when he was appointed as Local Government and Housing Minister in 2016.
