KUCHING: The upgrading works on the drainage system project costing over RM12 million located at Jalan Field Force, Batu Kawa has officially started.
Upon completion, it will not only be able to accommodate the increasing housing development activity in the area but will also improve the existing drainage system
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian yesterday witnessed the handing over of the project to contractor Hock Seng Lee (HSL) Executive Director Tony Yu Youong Wee and in the presence of Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak deputy director Ir Law Wee.
Jalan Field Force is seeing rapid housing development and increased population growth in recent years; hence the original drainage system, especially with muddy ditches, can no longer cope with the large amount and high flow of excess water in the area.
At the request of the residents, and through DID’s research, Dr Sim has successfully obtained the approval and funding for the project.
The Jalan Field Force drainage system upgrading project was one of seven major development projects which Dr Sim, who is Batu Kawa assemblyman, had managed to secure for the constituency under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
The other upgrading projects involve improving the drainage system in Lorong 1C and 2, Sungai Moyan, Sungai Surih, Jalan Ketitir, RPR Batu Kawa areas and a riverbank rehabilitation works in Kampung Sinar Budi Lama.
Through the DID project development briefing, the project which involves the upgrading of an estimated 2-km long drainage system and improvement to a section of Jalan Field Force, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.
Dr Sim also reminded the contractor to carry out their duties with full responsibility so as to complete the project according to the standard and requirements set by the authorities, following assurance given by the DID during the briefing.
