MIRI: A housewife lost RM9,050 after being scammed — she was led to believe that she had won a vehicle in a lucky draw.
Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief Supt Maria Rasid, who confirmed the case, said the 57-year-old victim was at home when she was contacted by a man identifying himself as “Mohd Shamsul Nizam Abdullah” around 12.40pm, June 1.
The caller told the victim that she had won a Ford Ranger pick-up in a lucky draw.
She was then asked to make several money transactions for delivery matters and others.
The victim made seven transactions totalling RM9,050.
After the transactions were made, the victim decided to turn down the offer and wanted her money back but the suspect charged her a cancellation fee.
Feeling tricked, the victim lodged a police report.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
