KUCHING: A 55-year-old male driver tragically lost his life after being thrown from a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) during a collision on Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Bin Haji Satem Highway at 8.30 pm on Friday.
According to reports from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Two passengers, a 65-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman seated in the rear, suffered multiple injuries and are presently receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.
Firefighters utilised a ‘Scope stretcher’ to extract the trapped male passenger while the woman managed to exit on her own.
While travelling from Jalan Sampadi to Kuching, the vehicle allegedly lost control due to extensive speed, leading to the devastating accident. Subsequently, it veered off the road and flipped into a drain on the left side near the Kampung Selang Ulu junction.
The badly damaged MPV is currently under investigation in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
