MIRI: A 68-year-old man lost his life in a fatal two-vehicle crash on Jalan Pan Borneo at Km898 on Saturday afternoon.
Miri District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that the incident occurred at 2.30 pm and involved a Perodua Viva vehicle driven by the deceased and a Toyota Hilux vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man.
According to initial police investigations, the Perodua Viva, which was travelling from Bekenu, veered to the right, leading the Toyota Hilux coming from behind to collide with the rear of the Viva.
The impact severely damaged the Viva’s rear, while the Hilux sustained front-end damage.
The driver of the Perodua Viva was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead en route.
The Toyota Hilux driver escaped the accident without injuries.
Police have since opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Further details on the cause of the accident are being investigated.
