KUCHING: A local man, who was involved in a fatal two-vehicle collision along Jalan Teo Kui Seng-Jalan Stutong Baru yesterday (Sept 7), has succumbed to severe injuries at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that the 25-year-old driver died while receiving treatment in the hospital’s emergency ward, almost three hours following the crash.
“The deceased, who is the driver of a Perodua Viva, sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at 1.51pm.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries up to 10 years in prison and up to RM50,000 fine, upon conviction,” he said in a statement.
Farhan explained that the accident happened around 11.01am when a Perodua Viva and a Toyota Vios were travelling in opposite directions.
The Viva, driven by the deceased, was heading towards Jalan Lapangan Terbang from Stutong Baru when it skidded out of control and collided head-on with the oncoming Vios.
He added that the Vios driver only sustained light injuries in the collision.
In light of this, the public is urged to channel any information regarding the accident to the traffic investigating officer Insp Russell Stetson Junner at 013-8578601 and Kuching traffic police station at 082-259900 or the nearest police station.
Yesterday, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that six individuals were left injured in the collision – two men in the Viva along with three men and a woman in the Vios.
However, the extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
