MIRI: Being the country’s future assets and leaders, youths have been told not to abuse drugs.

“Drugs can destroy not only the drug addicts but also institutions,” said Senator Alan Ling today during the opening of “Taklimat Sivik” at Kolej Tun Dato Tuanku Haji Bujang Miri.

“Once you abuse drugs, you are not only putting your lives and safety at risk, but others as well including your families,” he said.

Ling, who is also a lawyer, recalled the time when he was in court handling crime cases involving juveniles.

“Most of those involved in criminal activities were also drug abusers. The problems at the grassroots are related to drug abuse, hence we must take the initiative to tackle them,” he said.

Ling also proposed school tours to prisons or courts in order to help expose youths to the consequences of abusing drugs.

On the “Taklimat Sivik”, he said it was an interactive platform to convey important information to schools.
