KUCHING: A Filipina suspected of abusing drugs was released on RM3,500 bail with two local sureties at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.
Patricia Delos Santos Lutre was released on bail after the charge was read by Prosecuting Officer Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang.
Earlier, the accused applied for bail because she had to return to the Philippines to settle her divorce and look after her son.
Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof allowed the accused to be released and ordered Patricia to report herself to the investigating officer once a month until the case closed on May 21.
Meanwhile, her partner Ruby Ann Deka Cruz, who faced the same charge, was not allowed to be released.
The investigating officer applied for a re-mention of the case pending the chemical report. The court fixed May 21 for the re-mention of the case.
The accused was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which is punishable under Section 39C (1) of the same act and carries a jail term of up to seven years and whipping up to three strokes.
