KUCHING: Police arrested a drug addict for possessing an air rifle and pellets during a raid by narcotics police at a house along Jalan Sungai Maong here on Friday.
State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid said the 40-year-old was arrested for alleged involvement in drug abuse activities.
“Police inspected the house where the raiding team found several drugs placed in a drawer of a wooden cabinet. Paraphernalia seized included a translucent plastic packaging containing silver substances believed to be ecstacy weighing 8.8g, a red and green plastic packaging with ten brown pills believed to be ecstacy weighing 3.78g and two blue translucent plastic packaging each containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing 0.86g. All the drugs seized have a street value of RM1,950.”
Hasnir added that the raiding team also found an air rifle and two plastic containers of lead pellets and another box also containing pellets stored in a bedroom.
He said the unemployed suspect tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine after he was brought to the state police headquarters for further action.
The suspect has multiple prior criminal records for drug abuse. He is being remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, he can be sentenced to not less than two years and not more than five years in prison and whipping no less than 3 strokes and no more than nine strokes.
He is also being investigated under Section 8 Firearms Act 1960.
