MIRI: Miri Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) last Wednesday evening detained an unemployed man believed to be a drug peddler and seized ganja (cannabis) worth RM750.
Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said a team from Miri NCID conducted a raid following intelligence collection and surveillance before the arrest.
The suspect aged 20 was arrested by the roadside at Jalan Sim Ching Kay at 5.30pm.
“The suspect was stopped by the police while walking along the road and upon checking was found with a packet of roasted groundnuts inside a pocket of his pants,” Lim said.
“Police also found five small packets inside the groundnuts packet believed to be ganja (cannabis) weighing 50.68g,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A (2) and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has no previous record of drug-related offences.
