MIRI: The Miri Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) raided Batu Niah area, and arrested a 39-year-old foreign national suspected of involvement in local drug distribution.
Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said today that during the operation, a plastic bag was seized, containing 14 transparent packages, each suspected to hold crystalline methamphetamine, with an estimated weight of 800 grams.
The confiscated items are valued at RM26,400.
The suspect is scheduled to make a court appearance for a remand application to aid ongoing investigations. The case is being pursued under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If found guilty, the suspect may face either the death penalty or possible life imprisonment along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
Police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any information concerning drug distribution activities in their vicinity to the nearest police station promptly.
