KUCHING: The Padawan police have scored a minor success with the arrest of six suspected drug peddlers on Thursday night.
According to Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, the six peddlers would be facing life imprisonment if convicted under Section 39A of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. They would also be charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Three of the suspects, aged between 22 and 43 years old are from Siburan while each of the other three is from Mukah, Tapah and Serian. They are aged between 29 and 41 years old.
Aidil said that the police had been monitoring the suspects for quite a while and on last Thursday they went to a house at Taman Duranda Emas, Kuching-Serian Road.
Unaware of the authorities, the house door was not locked and the police team found the six suspects together there.
After a check on the house, police found a small, black bag on the mattress in the first room of the house. They also found a bag with containing 20 plastic packets of various sizes, each containing crystalline crystals suspected to be syabu weighing 12.1grammes. All items found inside the bag were put in a container.
Two plastic packets containing crystalline crystals were also found on one of the suspects. The drugs believed to be weighing 1.3g was found in the left pocket of the suspect’s jeans.
Another packet weighing 0.4g was found in the right pocket of another suspect wearing short pants.
The suspects were brought to the Padawan District police headquarters and tested positive for drugs.
Initial investigation found that the suspects had admitted to possessing the drugs. They have been peddling for the past four to five years, the suspects disclosed during the probe.
The suspects are detained for further questioning.
