SIBU: The Sarawak Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) made a recent arrest of a suspected drug dealer and seized various drugs worth more than RM640,000.
The drugs with a total of weight of 14.12kg made it the second-largest drug seizure in Sarawak thus far.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri in a press conference today said a 29-year-old man believed to be involved in drug distribution, was arrested in the operation on Dec 1.
The police conducted a series of raid towards a two-storey terrace house in Jalan Bunga Raya and an apartment in Jalan Sena around 7.30pm.
“The suspect who was paid RM1,000 per week for the past two months to distribute drugs, was tested positive for drugs and he had several prior records related to drug abuse.
“The drugs valued at RM643,157.16 consist of 5,940.11g of methamphetamine, 4,407.24g of ketamine, 1,830g of Erimin 5, 225g of Ecstasy juice powder, 760g of Ecstasy pills and 960g of magic mushroom (Psilocybin).
“It is believed that the drug supply can cater to 50,423 users,” he said.
Mohd Azman stated that the suspect believed to be involved in a syndicate, was active in drug distribution activities around Sibu, Kuching, Bintulu, and Miri.
Investigation found that the supply is believed to be obtained from Peninsula via courier services and the apartment (in Jalan Sena) was turned into storage for drugs as well as a place to repack drugs into smaller packages.
“After receiving instruction, the suspect will disperse the drugs by the roadside around Sibu and notify his boss, who will then inform the buyers to collect the packages.
“The suspect also delivers drugs via express bus services to Bintulu, Miri, and Kuching,” he said.
Also seized in the raid was a Nissan Navara estimated to be worth RM55,000 under Section 25 of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Forfeiture of Property) 1988.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the suspect is currently remanded until Dec 7 to facilitate investigations.
