KUCHING: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Sarawak has seized drugs worth an estimated RM1.120 million last year.
Sarawak Customs acting director Mohd Nadzri Ariffin (pic) said a total of 13 drug seizures were carried out in 2021 netting 33.686 kilogrammes of drugs such as methamphetamine, cannabis and ketamine as well as 10,046 pills.
He added that a total of five local persons — four men and a woman — were arrested.
“I urged the public to help eliminate the crime of smuggling of goods especially cigarettes, liquor, firecrackers, drugs, vehicles and others.
“Smuggling not only harms the country in terms of lost revenue; it is also a threat to national security and the well-being of the people,” he said during a press conference at Wisma Kastam here today.
He, therefore, called on the public to give information on smuggling activities by calling the Customs Toll Free Line 1-800-88-8855 or the nearest Customs Office statewide.
“We assure you that the identities of all informants are kept confidential,” he said.
