SRI AMAN: A local man, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, allegedly caused a two-vehicle accident along KM12, Jalan Sri Aman-Sarikei on Sunday.
The accident, which occurred around 3.15 pm, involved two pickup trucks – a Nissan and a Toyota – both traveling in the same direction before the collision.
Sri Aman Police Chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the Nissan pickup truck, driven by a couple aged 43 and 44, was en route to Kuching.
Meanwhile, the Toyota pickup truck, driven by a 48-year-old man, was heading home to Sg Tandok.
“The accident occurred when the Toyota driver abruptly stopped at a P-turn to make an illegal U-turn, causing the Nissan pickup truck to rear-end it after the Nissan driver did not have sufficient time to avoid the vehicle in front,” he said.
“Upon arriving at the scene, the police team found that the Toyota pickup truck driver appeared to be in a drunken state. Subsequently, the driver was taken to Sri Aman Hospital for a blood sample to be obtained for alcohol and drug testing,” Mathew added.
As a result of the collision, the passenger of the Nissan pickup truck sustained minor injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 45(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
