SIBU: Outgoing Julau police chief DSP Bidol Noyeng reckoned that looking after the security of the district was the most challenging in his career due the vastness of the area.

With a land area of 1,703 sq kms, Julau district is two and half times bigger than Singapore.

Bidol was the police chief of the predominantly Iban area for nine years since February, 2011. After being in the police force for 41 years, he officially retired on February 15.

“What is most challenging about Julau is the sheer size of the area with mountainous terrain. It takes time for police personnel to reach certain places. However, all these are not obstacles for us to give the best service to the people as most of the time, we tried to arrive in the fastest time possible,” he said in a speech during a farewell dinner held for him, recently.

“As the police chief, I had ventured into the deepest part of the district including Hulu Entabai which took me hours to reach the place.

“I am thankful that all the government departments and agencies had given their fullest support to us to enable us to provide good services to the people,” he added.

He also lauded the local communities for their cooperation which had enabled them (police personnel) to discharge their duty effectively and with full commitment.

DSP Bidol will be succeeded by his deputy ASP Colony Kiai.

During the farewell dinner, Bidol also presented certificates of appreciation to junior and senior officers, reporters and community leaders.

Among those present were Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin and Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.
